Just a thought for the day that I should I’d share with you on the topic of acquiring imperfections (or at least acknowledging them). This is my lovely Parker Pen, which was a gift from my wife, that later got damaged on the barrel.
I use it as a daily reminder that imperfections are a normal part of life, and make something unique and even more special… rather than less precious. This is something I think many of us forget in the pursuit of covering up mistakes/flaws, and trying to better ourselves.
Whilst I am absolutely in the business of FIXING issues in people’s voices, issues which prevent them doing what it is they want to do, I felt it was important to remind each of you reading this that acquiring imperfection is a normal part of living. We naturally acquire cuts, bruises, scars, broken bones, as well as more emotional/mental changes that occur during life. Now whilst those things might feel like they mar your overall sense of self, each of these acquired imperfections actually embody stories and tell the journey you’ve been through to get to that point.
In the same way, I think that singing allows us access to many many songs that reflect our inner-selves, whilst being expressed through our outward capacity for singing/making music, etc. We’ve got to embrace the natural acquisition of imperfection, whilst seeking to build a better way to express the nuances those imperfections bring to each of us.
Hope that helps some of you thinking about your own flaws!
